This is the very core of the city- the heart of modern Athens!
Formerly a palace, the Parliament building and the square in front of it have been the location of many important political events in the country's history. In the front courtyard you'll find the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, a monument which pays tribute to the soldiers who have fallen in battle, as well as the colorful "Evzones", the presidential guard in traditional dress. Every hour, on the hour, spectators gather to witness the unique, perfectly synchronized, ceremonial changing of the guard. Behind the Parliament building, the National Gardens offer a much needed green oasis, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
