ATHENS WALKING TOUR
Our starting point is at the parking lot of the Acropolis in front of the Dionysus Café/Restaurant. From there we will begin our ascent to the Acropolis and its famous monuments. Afterwards we walk downhill towards the pedestrian walkway to Hadrian's Arch - also known as Hadrian's Gate - built by the Roman Emperor, and famous philhellene and benefactor, Hadrian. We then visit the impressive Temple of Zeus and the Panathenaic Stadium, built for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Passing by the Presidential Mansion and the National Guards, known as Evzones, we enter the National Garden of Athens, a refreshing green oasis in the middle of the city, to continue towards Syntagma Square and the heart of modern Athens where the Greek Parliament, the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the National Guards are all located. Our tour ends at the Parliament building. From there you can easily continue towards the central shopping district of Athens on Ermou Street or head for the Plaka for a delicious lunch.
